The Resilience Project

The Resilience Project is inspired by the true story of Marguerite de la Rocque, who, in 1542 was marooned on Île des Démons off the coast of Newfoundland.  She survived for over two years on the frozen, desolate island.  This extraordinary story of resilience captured my imagination and inspired me.   In March 2013 I presented a 20 minute work in progress piece at Camden People’s Theatre based on her story, mixing autobiography, installation, film and live performance, my first foray into solo work.

I then developed the work through National Theatre Wales, Wales Lab in June 2013, where I was lucky enough to collaborate with the amazing Leah Crossley who took many of the images in the gallery.
